I know it's been a while since I have posted, so here is a post. On Saturday February 4, 2012, I travelled to Winchester to shoot Band Six at the Cornerstone Cafe on Washington Street. This is not your typical cafe. In fact, it is located in the 2nd Congregational Church. The band played upstairs in the church itself and in between sets, they had coffee, soda, and sweets set up downstairs in the kitchen. This band is made up of older gentlemen that play a combination of the piano, guitars,bongo drums, and misc other instruments.

Bi Weekly Visit to the Cape

I took a trip with my best friend to Mc Donalds next to the Saggamore Bridge on the Cape of Cod to visit her kids that are in foster care. The youngest, is my Godson. They are 5,1 and 11 months. We picked up her oldest daughter who is 15 in Hudson first so she could see her half sisters and half brother. The visits have been on Wednesdays, but now have been changed to Saturdays which is better for us. The reason for the location is the foster fathers live in Province Town which puts the visit about half way. We always have a blast and these kids are a blast to be around.

Garden In The Woods

On Monday October 10, 2011, I went to Garden In The Woods in Framingham, Mass to do my Photo Essay homework which was to shoot one location. Having never been there before, I didn't know what to expect, but after walking the trails for a couple of hours and taking pictures, I decided to go back in the Spring.

A Blast From The Past

I recently found out that the house that I spent half my life in was back on the market, so I took the oppurnity and decided to go take a walk through and take some pictures for my portfolio.
While walking through, it brought back many memories. It made me remember fun times had in the house such as a party my parents threw for Barbara and I after we got back from our honeymoon. I also remembered the rock in front, of which I remember being scared to jump off, but now, it looks so small. There were some things that I had forgotten about such as the the artwork on the wall in the laundry room.
I also remebered going down the fire pole (my room is right next to it) after it was polished and sprained my ankle. Not many people can say that they get the chance to visit there home where they were raised years later and I am glad that I was able to do so.

2011 Boston Marathon

I had never been to the Boston Marathon so I decided to skip watching the Red Sox and head on out to see the race. I decided not to go into Boston, but instead headed to Framingham and stood on Route 135 right near the 10K marker. The weather was perfect for the race (at least for the runners) with the wind blowing East, so it was a bit chilly for those watching. It started out with rollerblades, then we saw bikes. After awhile, the handicap bikes came by and we knew the race was in full swing.

As far as parking, I got there very early and got a great spot which put me in a postion to get out with out any trouble. I went down mostly becasue the photography department at The New England Institute of Art was asked for students to shoot the spectators. I am waiting on a response from the magazine on file size for submission.

Portraiture Finals

This semester, I have been taking Portraiture and for my finals, I decided to focus on the Bar Scene. When I was in my 20's, it was people my age that would frequent the bars, but now that I am in my 40's I've been noticing that there aren't too many people under 35 that are going out to see a band in a local bar. I decided to focus my attention on that and see how many people will be a part of my research.

For this shoot I travelled to New Bedford, Massachusetts to the New Wave Café where The Invisible Orphans were playing. I chose to go there because I know one of the band members and it he needs images anyways. I will be going out one more time to Worcester to see this band again and document the age range.

Evening Wear

I have started a project titled "Evening Wear". My first shoot for this project was in Everett at the home of one of my models. I have chosen the Maxim look because they are modeling dresses as if they were in an ad, plus I am starting to look at internships and want to show potential employers that I can produce such images.

British Beer Company

On Friday, February 18, I went to the British Beer Company for dinner and ended up staying to listen to Element 78, a live band that was playing that night. I had to take pictures of strangers so I thought this would be a great opportunity. I ran into a group that was having a birthday party so I hung out with them and took some pictures for class. The band was terrific, I enjoyed the show and hope to see them again and maybe get a paid job shooting them for promotional material.

The Miracle of Life

On January 30th, 2011, I spent the day at UMass Memorial Hospital with Geneva Morais and her friend Janice Antunes. After having been induced, the night before, and having a break so she could get some rest, she was once again hooked up to the meds. Mid afternoon, Anthony Jacob Braga decided that it was time for his debut. When the doctor came into the room to check on her status, she broke the water (not planned) while checking on the dilation. It wasn't long after that, the pushing began. After about 4 or 5 pushes, Anthony took his first breath. I was standing outside in the hallway and the most unbelievable feeling came across me, knowing that I had been there the whole 9 months and was about to see him for the first time. I have asked God over the last several months to keep an eye on them and on Saturday night, I asked one last time, but this time it was to ask for Anthony to come home soon. It was at 6:30pm when he arrived weighing in at 7 pounds, 7 ounces with a length of 21 inches.

Everyone asks me how come there aren't any pictures of myself and I always say, "I am behind the camera". Well here I am in front of the camera. I am not one to photograph myself, but I had to for an assignment for my Portraitrue class. We had to come up with at least 5 printed images. Here is a sample of what I took for the class.

Mt. Wachusett

On January 8th, I spent the morning photographing a friend and her family at Mt. Wachusett in Princeton, Mass. The weather was cold, about 28 degrees and flurries. This was a last minute shoot due to the fact that I had learned about the trip the night before. They went because their oldest child wanted to learn how to snowboard for Christmas so Mom decided that she would learn herself. I stayed there about 4 hours before heading home.

Christmas 2010

Christmas this year was different than those of years past. Usually, we get together as a family on Christmas Eve, and on Christmas Day, but this year it was just on Christmas itself. That was fine, we still had a good time and had fun watching the kids play with their new toys. We arrived around 11:00am and didn't leave until late afternoon. As usual, dinner was fabulous, and the center piece was made by the kids. Nate played the piano for us and I was impressed with his skill.
Santa was good to all. I got an autographed Bruins jersey, a history photo book, an instructional nature and landscape book, and some snacks to eat during the Patriots game.

Another Birthday Party

My friend Geneva's middle daughter turned 4 on the 21st of December. The party was on Friday the 17th. We had a blast, but that's not unusual around cute kids! We are still waiting for the big arrival of her son, and by the looks of it, he won't take too much longer. He is in position and practicing his breathing.

November 19th, 2010, my good friend Geneva's youngest daughter Gia, celebrated her 1st birthday at Mc Donalds in Marlborough. It was a small party with just family, but a fun time non the less

Meeting at NEIA

On Thursday, November 4th, the students at the New England Institute of Art were invited to a meeting with the president of the college. We, as students, rallied against the news that certain full time faculty were "laid off." Watch the video and see for yourself how upset we all were and the arrogance of the new president. He even looked at me a few time, like I was to blame. (Not sure if I am on any of the videos) Three of the faculty that are leaving are from my department, the photography department.
As it stands right now, there is a group that has been formed on Facebook of students, past and present trying to figure out what to do next to save the school. When asked if anyone is thinking of transferring, just about the whole room (about 30 or more of us) raised our hands. If it wasn't for the fact that I am only a couple of semesters away from graduating, I would consider it.
I am behind my fellow students, but do understand the business end of it as well.

Art Institute

On Thursday, November 4th, The New England Institute of Art held a meeting to address the student body about some recent changes to the faculty. The turn out was tremendous. The majority of the students that showed up were photography majors showing support for two faculty that were laid off, Bruce Myren and Sajel Patel, both proffessors are top quality. I have had both and had a great experience with each of them. A couple of those students that showed up are recent graduates. Unfortunatly, I don't think that there is anything that any of us can do to persuade the President and other front office personell to rethink their decision.

The following audio clip was recorded during the meeting. Fell free to leave a comment on here to show that we as students do not like how things have been handled. Personally, I understand the business end, but why they didn't talk to the students ahead of time to get our input on how to approach this difficult choice is a mystery to me as well as everyone else that was there.

They talked about the student to faculty ratio and the 4 million expansion project that the landlord is paying for most of it, but we are paying for some of it as well. This is confusing, because tuition is down, but they are paying for more space?

It's not the campus that makes a great college, it's the quality of the staff and faculty, and those at the Art Institute are the best, they are always there for you, and even after you graduate, they like to keep in touch and follow your career.

Honey Pot Orchards

Today, we spent a few hours at Honey Pot Orchards in Stow, Mass with our 5 year old nephew who is visiting from RI. We took in the Hedge Maze, a Hay Ride, Apple Picking, looked at the farm animals, and picked up a pumpkin. The weather was awesome for late October, sunny, and in the high 50's.

Models Against Abuse

I have been asked to join in a project called "Models Against Abuse". There is way too much abuse going on and as photographers, we can make a difference. Therefore, there is a group of us that are going to get together to make a stand. What we are going to do is still a bit unclear, but we are going to shoot models (live on the web) sometime in 2011 and make calendars. We are at the beginning stages so keep tuned on the date! With the profits, we are going to make a foundation for awareness about abuse, or donate it to a similar cause. This video was produced by Peter James the photographer who came up with the idea.

Signs

I have started a project that I call "Signs". The inspiration comes from Ansel Adams who did his own project focusing on signs he saw every day during his travels. I started out in Worcester and worked my way home stopping a few times today. I am going to continue this project over the next several months, years as I see interesting signs. This is something that I have been thinking about doing for a few years now.

Griffin Museum Focus Awards

On September 25, 2010, I had the opportunity to photograph The Focus Awards at the Griffin Museum in Winchester, Massachusetts.The ceremony was held at the town hall. This event gives an award to photographers and it is not run as a contest. The recipients are chosen for a number of categories by other photographers. After the ceremony, there was a red carpet style gala held at the museum. I felt like the paparazzi standing there taking pictures of people walking down the carpet. I also had to shoot some in front of a sign with the museums logo.

Professional Development Finals

This semester I took Professional Development1 with Molly Lamb. For the majority of the semester we had free reign on what we wanted to shoot. Although I prefer Portraiture, I decided to focus my attention on other aspects of photography. I learned alot about myself as far a photographer goes. I always loved photographing children, but realized that the reason why is because I love kids and they are somehow comfortable with me (even the shy ones). We also had to create a blog. I never thought that a blog was a good way to get your work out there.
Other issues we learned were about marketing (thus the blog), editing and sequencing, branding and tag lines.
The previous images are the final images that I and my classmates chose to post on my blog for my finals.

Massachusetts Department of Fire Services_First Training Shoot

Today I arrived at the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services around 6:30am. Just before 7:00am it looked like a military base with the class lined up for inspection. Shortly afterwards, they broke off into groups and started their day. One group went to the lockers and changed into shorts and t-shirts for morning P.T. while the other grabbed their gear and had a demo on the SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus). While talking to one of the instructors, I found out that this class has 48 recruits with 3 women.
I have to say, that from just this day, I have a better apprecitation for our firefighters. This class looks tough, but they are always encouraged by the instructors during the training/workouts. I am going to learn a lot during the next several weeks of shooting and I look forward to the other shoots.

Marlborough Main Street Fire

Well, yesterday (Saturday June 26, 2010) was an interesting and long day. I left here around 7am to drive to Warren, RI for a photoshoot. Once I was back in Marlborough I saw some smoke comming from the center of town. I figured I'd go investigate. Sure enough there was an 8 alarm fire in a building that housed a couple of stores (one being a restaraunt) and about a dozen apartments up stairs. Being the photographer that I am, I grabbed my camera and got over 200 shots. Below are some of the shots I took.

Editorial Project

After lots of roadblocks and going back to the drawing board, I have finally come up with a 6 week long project for my Editorial class. I have talked to the director of the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow, Mass and I am going to start shooting there on Tuesday June, 22 2010, Not only will I be able to get images around the campus, but I will be able to get into a controlled burn and shoot from the inside to get some really interesting images. Marlborough 350 Main Street Car Show

A couple of weeks ago, my hometown of Marlborough, Mass was supposed to have a car show, but Mother Nature wasn't cooperating, so the decision was made to have it on Father's Day. Mother Nature was good to us. The sun was out, barely a cloud in the sky and in the 80's. I decided to go down and do some shooting. While there I ran into an old coworker whom works for the city as a Councilor at Large.
This is part of a Summer long celebration for the cities 350th birthday which was one week ago from this post.

School

I am now well under way in my 5th semester. This means that I am about half way through my college career. :)

Recently I had a great photoshoot with Kasey Soucy in Worcester at Elm Park. The weather was great, some overcast, but no rain. This shoot is for a project for my Professional Development class so I am not posting as of yet.

Since I started this blog, I have purchased a brand new laptop. It it is a 14" Leveno Thinkpad and I am posting this blog on it.

This week I have two photoshoots planned. One right here in Marlborough as part of the cities 350th anniversary and the other one in Cranston, RI which is my nephew's birthday party.
